BRPD say man found in arson fire was shot

Baton Rouge (NBC33) — UPDATE: Baton Rouge police have identified the body found inside the house as 35-year-old Laross Davis.
Corporal Don Coppola Jr. said Davis suffered a single gunshot wound.
Investigators responded to a report of fire at Davis’ house early this morning, and found his body partially burned.
Coppola says police have no other details about Davis’ death, at this time.

ORIGINAL: The Baton Rouge Fire Department is investigating an arson house fire after crews discovered a dead body inside.
Firefighters responded to the fire in the 2600 block of Eaton Street, around 6:14 a.m., according to fire department spokesman Mark Miles.
Crews extinguished a smoldering couch, but Miles, said very little water was actually used to put it out. Miles added that the house suffered extensive smoke damage, totaling $15,000.
Firefighters discovered then the body in a front bedroom, while searching the house.
No details were given about the cause of death or identity of the body, but the Baton Rouge Police Department and the Coroner’s Office were called to the scene.
Miles said the fire department has determined the fire was an act of arson, and the case is still under investigation.
