Company recalls Silk soymilk due to possible fatal reaction
WhiteWave foods is recalling half gallon containers of Silk Light Original Soymilk because the product may contain almond milk.
It's possible people with severe allergies could run the risk of dying if they have an allergic reaction to almond in the milk. The company believes about 21,400 units have already been shipped to retailers and wholesalers in a long list of states: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
The corporation has yet to report any illnesses.
The mistake was made due to a packaging error. It is not due to the manufacturing process.
The half gallon containers are printed with “use by” dates of either June 22, 2014 or June 23, 2014 (printed as 06/22/14 or 06/23/14) on the front of the carton above the pour spout and a Universal Product Code (UPC) of 25293 60101 on the back of the package. This recall only applies to the plant codes listed below.
