Many Americans are still paying more than four bucks a gallon for gas while Congress is still disagreeing over what to do about it. A bid to speed up offshore drilling permits failed to make it through the senate today.

On roads everywhere around the country, high gas prices are fueling debate.

In the Senate today, republicans pushed to encourage offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, Virginia and Alaska, extending leases suspended by the Obama administration after the BP oil spill.

However, democrats dashed the measure, insisting the risks bring little reward. Late yesterday, a democratic bill to repeal $2 billion in tax breaks to the five biggest oil companies failed to pass a procedural test.

Congress keeps spinning its wheels, as Americans fear theirs’ may soon be too expensive to drive.
