Company responds to job related deaths
PLAQUEMINE, LA (NBC33) — A deadly accident happened at the Shintech Louisiana plant on Sunday, May 22, where two employees died on the job.
“We are very saddened by the loss of life, and our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the workers involved,” David Wise, Shintech Plant Manager, said in a press release.
Sometime around noon on Sunday, employee Tommy Rivet and Tory Sanchez, a contract worker employeed by Performance Contractors, Inc., were overcome by the toxic chemicals polyvinyl chloride (PVC) produced at the plant.
“The workers were provided immediate medical assistance on-site, and local EMS services were also dispatched to the site,” said Wise.
Shintech is a chlor-vinyl manufacturing facility located in Plaquemine.
Shintech Louisiana LLC confirmed that an accident Sunday, May 22, at its Plaquemine facility took the lives of two workers.
