Severe weather rushed through our area overnight. The storm system downed trees, knocked out electricity, and backed up traffic across the Capitol City. Our Jon Fairbanks headed to the Corporate Blvd. where winds reached nearly 70 miles an hour.
At Corporate Center on Corporate Boulevard dozens of windows were blown out because of last nights storm. Crews are cleaning up the mess there and at various other locations throughout the Parish.
The Mayor’s office issued an emergency declaration trying to get debris removed and power turned back on as quickly as possible. DEMCO reports about 300 customers without power, down from nearly 1,000. At last check Entergy reported more than 4,000 homes without electricity just in East Baton Rouge Parish.
While crews are out cleaning up the areas most affected in the parish, the Mayor’s office says to use caution around down power lines and be careful when driving. Crews will continue to be out in to the evening cleaning up and restoring power to those in the dark, but there is the threat for more severe weather this evening. The Mayor’s office is encouraging everyone to keep emergency supplies handy if the power goes out again.
