Zachary is urging residents to conserve natural gas by turning down their heaters.

Record cold temperatures have caused low pressure in the city’s natural gas lines, according to City of Zachary officials.

Since the cold weather is expected to continue through tomorrow, Mayor David Amrhein and city officials are urging residents to lower the thermostat to 65 degrees for the next couple of days, to conserve natural gas.

City officials are also asking residents to check on neighbors and family members who may be affected by the cold weather, like elderly or disabled residents.

The City of Zachary Department of Public Works is monitoring the situation and is on 24 hour stand-by. The Public Works Department recommends residents to “winterize” their homes, by insulating any exposed pipes.

If you need any assistance call the City of Zachary at 225-654-0201.
