If you get an email from the Census Bureau asking for personal information, don't be fooled.
Jim Stalls with the Baton Rouge Better Business Bureau says those emails are scams. Real government agencies, like the Census Bureau, contact people through mail.
Cybercriminals send emails directing people to enter personal information at a fake website that looks identical to a legitimate website. Stalls says they're just looking for information to use to steal a person's identity.
The Better Business Bureau suggests deleting suspicious emails, or reporting them. People should increase computer security and watch out for pop-ups and emails from unfamilar sources.
