Cell Phone Ban Considered

State lawmakers took one step towards banning hand held cell phones in the car.

The House Transportation Committee approved Representative Austin Badon's bill in a 12 to 3 vote.

If approved, drivers couldn't use cell phones while driving, unless using a hands free device.

State police support the bill, saying a majority of traffic crashes are caused by distracted drivers.

It now heads to the house for debate.
