REDWOOD CITY, CA (CNN) — Four people illegally crossed the train tracks at the Redwood City CalTrain station.
It was tweeted out to KRON by CalTrain; three people, they make it across-a little too close for comfort, but it was the last person, the man who barely makes it.
He Misses the train by a second, maybe half a second and that person is the most talked about among CalTrain riders.
We have new information that we've learned today. According to CalTrain, those four people were actually illegally crossing and the reason why there are arms down at every CalTrain station.
They have arms available to make sure that the public is safe and there it is going down right now.
According to CalTrain, those four people actually went around this arm here to make it across the tracks.
(Reporter): Can CalTrain do anything more to make sure that the public is safe?
"Well the number one thing that we can do right now is educate people the rail safety issues they face when they're near the tracks. In the long term we hope that with electrification, modernization and of course grade separation, where we elevate the tracks so that pedestrians are not at the same level, we hope to address some of those issues, but really it's everyone's responsibility to be safe and make good choices when they're near trains," said Jayme Ackemann a spokesperson for CalTrain.
(Reporter): “Having said that what are you doing to see that the public can chime in as well?”
(Ackemann): “We want people to have the opportunity to ask questions and learn how to avoid that very same thing."
