el cajon, ca — A dramatic crime scene was caught on camera on Sunday, Aug. 21 in El Cajon, CA. An NBC News crew was on scene with Police Officers as they investigated a case where the body of a baby girl was found near a burning home in Southern, California. That’s when they witnessed a Police Officer being shot, and it was caught on tape.
El Cajon Police say Officer Jarret Slocom is in critical, but stable condition. In the video you can see him holding his neck, then being carried away from the scene by another officer.
Police responded to a report of a gunman at a home Sunday afternoon in El Cajon, northeast of San Diego. Then, that same caller told police the house was on fire.
Police say they believe the suspect, Kevin Collier, 31, probably died in the fire he set at the home. Police say Collier texted family members Sunday to say he'd killed his 1-year old daughter and his mother-in-law, who remains missing.
The girl's body was found in the suspected gunman's truck near the burning home. The girl had been shot in the head.
