When a massive sunstorm slams our atmosphere at 5-million miles an hour, just last month we get the majestic aurora.

Announcing itself through twinkling curtains over the upper latitudes, some of the most awesome -- in the true, and popular sense of the word -- displays in decades.

Bright greens, and pinks, sweeps and stripes, glowing rings - some of the coolest images have come from space.

"It's like a painting maybe that moves. Sometimes it makes me feel small, I mean it's so great and it comes from the sun."

If you want to see them for yourself because seeing the photos and the video it's spectacular but it's not quite the same as seeing them in person you're going to have to go to some places that can be pretty inconvenient for Americans.

The best places are considered Northern Norway, Greenland, Iceland, Finland, etc. But a lot of tourism right now is geared specifically towards seeing the Northern Lights.
