Dash cam video released on officer involved shooting of an attempted murder suspect

Police are releasing more details about a violent scene in downtown Columbus on Wednesday, March 14.

City police say one of their officers, Deborah Ayers, arrived at the scene and saw that a suspect had stabbed several victims.

She approached the suspect, identified as John Mallett, 37, and shot him when he approached her.

Officer Ayers is a 15-year veteran of the Columbus police department.

Dash cam video was released today. A white truck blocks the view of the moment when officer Ayers fired her weapon, but the shots can be heard.

Moments later, officer Ayers can be seen falling on the street before she gets up and continues to point her gun at Mallett.

Mallett is still in a Columbus hospital in critical condition.

He is accused of stabbing four people - three of them are still in critical condition.

The suspect's family has told the Columbus Police Department that Mallett suffers from mental illness and hasn't been taking his medicine.
