New plans by the Capital Area Transit System could make riding the bus a whole lot quicker in Baton Rouge.
CATS officials say they are in the process of bringing a rapid-transit system to the city. They say the new system would make riding the bus more like a train,
allowing the buses to bypass traffic in designated travel lanes and pass through
intersections made possible by a special sensor installed in traffic lights.
CATS officials are hoping a rapid-transit system may even encourage people to ditch their personal vehicles and ride the bus instead.
“I feel like at that point in time more people will be willing to ride something like that instead of saying ‘I have to take my car,’” says Drew Alexander, who rides the bus every day.
Cats officials say they don't know exactly where the rapid-transit system routes will run, but say the Florida Boulevard corridor would be the ideal place to start.
