CATS riders in Baker can now wait for the bus under a cool, shady covering on those hot summer days.

CATS unveiled it's very first shelter in the city of Baker today at the bus stop on Groom Road, right next to Walmart. The transit company has been working to expand its reach to other cities outside of Baton Rouge by adding a covering to its bus stops. Mayor Harold Rideau says that it's important to make public transportation easily accessible and comfortable to the citizens that rely on it on a daily basis.

"You know everybody doesn't have- I mean you have a large family and you may have two cars or maybe you don't even have transportation so it's allowed them to be able to get to and from jobs so this is tremendous effort on their part," says Baker Mayor Harold Rideau.

The shelter has solar panels on its roof to provide lighting on the inside. Mayor Rideau says they plan to add more shelters in Baker in the future.
