In less than two days, Louisiana residents have reserved more than half the money in a program to replace appliances with energy-efficient ones.
The Department of Natural Resources's Empower Louisiana website showed that by Sunday evening, $3.4 million in rebates were reserved, and just over $3 million was left.
Rebates for 13 sorts of appliances range from $75 for freezers
to $500 for central air conditioners and furnaces.
Reservations opened Saturday. To get the rebate, people must send proof within 30 days that they've bought a new Energy Star appliance and certify that they disposed of the old one properly.
