BATON ROUGE, La. (WVLA) -- Charlie Cangelosi is still in the hospital but he's making great progress.
That's according to his mother, Carolyn, via the Caringbridge website.

Charlie has been in intensive care since Sunday, Nov. 7 after he was shot in the stomach while trying to prevent a pregnant woman from being robbed.

Tuesday, Carolyn wrote "Once again, a great update. He slept all night! Just waiting for the doctor's report and still waiting for a step down ICU room. I like where he is so that is okay with us."

In Monday's journal entry she wrote: "Wanted everyone to know the great news. Without getting too specific for Charlies's sake, ALL systems are working!! The nurse was so excited to call us this morning. Also said he rested well and all drains and tubes are removed except the one for the pancreas. "

She also went on to thank several visitors for stopping by and showing their support for her son.

So far over 12,000 people have logged onto Charlie's Caringbridge site.

Police say they're still looking for Charlie's shooter.
