UPDATE: BRPD identify victim, possible cause in overnight traffic fatality

BATON ROUGE (NBC33) — UPDATE: The victim in Sunday night’s crash has been identified as Ashley Stroup, 22, of Denham Springs, LA.
Police say it appears that, for unknown reasons, Stroup’s vehicle entered the grassy median and then struck an interstate support post on the driver’s door.
There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
Investigators believe that Stroup was driving too fast for the bad weather conditions.
This investigation is on-going.
ORIGINAL: Baton Rouge Police report that a woman died in a traffic accident on Sunday just before midnight.
The crash happened at 1650 Interstate 110 North.
When officers arrived, the saw that a vehicle had hit a pole. Inside the SUV was a woman with severe injuries.
Emergency responders arrived on scene and later pronounced the woman dead.
The case was then turned over to Traffic Homicide to continue the investigation.
