BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — In Baton Rouge, someone has been shot and killed almost every day for the past week. Baton Rouge Police said they are working hard to get to the bottom of all of this.
There have been five murders in six days. Police said it's rare to have that many murders in such a short amount of time, but the thing is, people who live there sayid they're not surprised.
Larry Knightin said he is used to crimes in his neighborhood. He has lived here all his life.
"It won't stop. People are going to keep doing the same as they are. Don't care how old or young they are. They going keep doing what they're doing," Knightin said. "For a long time, they've been doing that."
So he is not surprised that it's still happening. Just down the road, a man was found shot to death in his own home. Now he is worried, he could be next.
"I don't have a weapon, you know, but I'd like to have one because they do bother me all the time, 100% of the time, every second of the day," Knightin said.
Barry Nelson said he does not get harassed, but he knows it happens around here.
"Something's going on. I'll put it to you that way. What, I don't know... I'd tell them give it to God," Nelson said.
Still, Baton Rouge Police said this is unusual.
"Five is a great number in such as short time, but investigators are out working continuously and taking every tip that comes in," said Don Coppola, BRPD Spokesperson.
They are also beefing up patrols all over this area, but they need your help too.
"You don't want to be afraid in your own neighborhood. Express any concerns that you may have to these officers. So they are out while detectives are looking into these cases, following up on these leads, and hoping to clear these cases," Coppola said.
If you know anything that could help detectives solve these murders, call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867 or call the Violent Crimes Unit at (225) 389-4869.
