Forbes recently published a list of 100 U.S. cities ranked by median pay. Baton Rouge is listed at number 74.

The Forbes list is based on data from Payscale.com, a site that collects salary and career information from millions of people.

Although Baton Rouge is near the bottom of this list, it’s ranked slightly higher than the New Orleans area.

The metropolitan area with the highest median pay is the San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CA region with a reported median pay of $99,600. At the very bottom is the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA area where median pay is reported to be $48,400.

But before you start packing your bags to relocate in hopes of larger paychecks, the list does not factor in the cost of living. While people in some cities make less money, the difference might be mitigated by a lower cost of living.
