BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) -- The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office has arrested Jason Robert Wyrick, 26, of Baton Rouge in connection with three shootings that occurred at approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 10.
Detectives in the homicide division believe Wyrick fired several shots at three different passing cars on Jefferson and Drusilla, near I-12 and Essen, and near Airline Highway near Jefferson. All the victims told authorities they did not know the gunman. They say he pulled up beside them, flipped them off, and then started randomly shooting.
“It’s three separate incidences all tied together,” Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said to NBC33 News. “As a result of witness statements and victim statements and the work of the detectives office homicide division, they were able to place a suspect in that immediate area, the same proximity to all these shootings, date and time...they executed a search warrant and recovered a weapon...and vehicle that fit the description of the weapon used in these crimes.”
Wyrick was charged tonight with four counts First Degree Murder and one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder as well as Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property and Illegal Use of a Weapon.
Gautreaux said Wyrick has a DWI and misdemeanor theft charge on his record, but that he was not “familiar to us in law enforcement.”
Wyrick claims he did not committ the crime.
