Accused drug dealer arrested after running from deputies

A 19 year old man is behind bars today after he pushed a deputy while attempting to flee a roadside investigation.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident happened on Tuesday, June 19. The suspect, Emmanuel Joseph Lewis of Hammond was in vehicle that was parked in the middle of Tillman Drive at around 2:00 a.m. Reports say his vehicle had the lights turned off and the car was not moving.

A deputy approached the vehicle. When he got to the car, Lewis put his hands on the deputy and pushed him away. Then, Lewis allegedly fled the scene on foot with four other people, who were also in the car.

Deputies chased the suspects, but focused attention on Lewis. They say they saw him throw several items from his pants pockets.

The items were later recovered. We’re told they were three separate bags of crack cocaine.

Lewis was arrested and charged with one count Aggravated Obstruction of a Highway of commerce, one count Resisting an Officer by flight on foot, one count Possession of Schedule II narcotics with intent to distribute, one count Emanation of excessive sound or noise, one count Battery of a Police Officer requiring medical attention, and one count Failure to Appear.

No information was given regarding the four other individuals who were occupying the vehicle.
