BATON ROUGE (NBC33) — UPDATE (10:44pm): All power has been restored. Entergy representatives say the outage was caused by equipment failure. They'll investigate through the night and into the morning to figure out exactly what caused that equipment to fail.
UPDATE (10:10pm): Approximately 25,000 customers still remain without power.
ORIGINAL: Three areas in Baton Rouge are experiencing major power outages tonight.
According to outage maps from Entergy, almost 30,000 people are in the dark right now.
No word yet on what's causing the power outage, but NBC33 has a call in to Entergy representatives.
Neighborhoods spanning from Siegen, to Sherwood Forest, all the way north to Merrydale are affected.
Right now, it appears the connecting factor is Airline Highway, since each major outage falls close to that road.
The outage is affecting homes and businesses. Currently, the Siegen Marketplace is shut down.
Entergy estimates power will be restored between 11:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
