BAKER, La. (WVLA) The Baker school system is facing a bit of turmoil in regards to the renewal of a contract for Superintendent Estes Taplin, who has served in the position for the past two years. The school board has worked to negotiate a new one year contract with Taplin for the past month. The current version is set to expire tonight at midnight.
Taplin told Tyler Gamble of NBC33 News this morning that he will not sign the contract. He is rejecting the terms based on a reduction in salary and benefits.
The superintendent is currently at his home in Mississippi and does not plan to return this evening.
“As far as I’m concerned, after tonight I am no longer the Superintendent,” he said during a phone interview.
Tonight on NBC33 News at 5 p.m. we will talk to school board members about the next step and how this will affect the current school year.
