Angry letter to boss gets MI man fired, internet stardom

We've all had moments at work where we felt like "enough is enough."

A man in Michigan took that one step further when he left his boss a note telling her exactly how he felt.

"All of a sudden you thought you had a snow ball and dropped it at the top of the hill and you look down at the bottom and then there's an avalanche," Joe Blumm told WXMI-TV.

It was a note meant to be seen by his manager alone, but once the note hit the internet, it took on a life of its own on sites like

"Then I noticed it was in the Top 5 of their hotlist and I kinda started freaking out a little," Blumm said.

While he didn't ask for it, Joe Blumm, who has worked at the BP on Lake Drive in east town for the past three years, is embracing the 15 minutes of fame.

"I know I struck a chord with a lot of disgruntled, low-paid employees who get the short end of the stick," Blumm said.

And now that he's looking for a new job,

"Hopefully with all the publicity that could be a reality. I would love to have a different job, something a little bit higher paying I would hope," Blumm explained.

He says what happened Thursday morning had been building for a while.

He says he asked to be taken off third shift and after working overnight and then waiting for his manager to relieve him he reached his breaking point when she never showed up.

"I had it. I had enough of that unprofessional atmosphere, having to deal with that tardiness and have it come down on me," Blumm explained.

So he posted the now-infamous note, locked up and went home.

We spoke with his manager on Thursday who admits she was late that day but argues that he never called her or anyone else.

He just walked off the job. A move he thought might end up with him losing his job.

"I don't wish them I'll hope that they can make things work out. I just want them to improve themselves," Blumm said.
