A jury in Italy found American college student Amanda Knox and her Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito guilty of murdering Knox's British roommate Meredith Kercher.
Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison, and Sollecito was sentenced to 25 years. For Knox's family, who watched the verdict come in at their Seattle home, the pain is raw and impossible to hide.
Friend D.J. Jonsrud said, "What's important is this is not over. We're going to fight until the end. We're getting her out of there." Aunt Janet Huff said, "In that country, there's a lot of, you have to save face. You have to do things so that you don't look bad. And I think that if they had admitted she was not guilty, that admitting that they made a mistake in the first place. And that's not something they were willing to admit."
"We're going to have her come home," said friend Alexandra McDougall. “She and Raffaele are not the first innocent people to be put behind bars by far. And unfortunately they're probably not going to be the last. And we're not going to stop fighting until we get them home." Grandmother Elizabeth Huff said, "My heart fell into my stomach, that's where I'm at now. I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight, but we don't have a choice." Knox's family says she plans to appeal.
