It was a pleasant surprise for commuters driving through the intersection of Perkins and Bluebonnet Monday morning.
Construction in the area is nearly complete.
Lanes in both directions are now wide open.
State transportation officials credit the dry weather with keeping the project ahead of schedule.
NBC33 reported a few months ago on how the construction was hurting businesses surrounding the area.
Those businesses say now they're ready for the customers to come back.
"It's very exciting to get them back, get them in," said Chris Steele, manager at Five Minute Oil Change. "People are just avoiding the area, so the more traffic that comes through the better our business is."
Steele says the construction cut business in half, but it's starting to see an improvement already.
DOTD officials say all the construction should be complete by January.
