BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A home located off of Jefferson Highway caught fire this morning, claiming the lives of two family pets.
The St. George Fire Department was called at 9:23 a.m. to a home in the 17000 block of Christopher Crossing. They arrived in four minutes and saw dense smoke in the house.
The fire seemed to begin in the kitchen area, but the exact cause and point of origin is still undetermined.
The blaze was extinguished at 9:46 a.m.
The home received moderate fire damage and heavy smoke damage.
No humans were injured in the fire, but three large dogs were recovered from the home. All three dogs had no pulse and were unresponsive due to smoke inhalation.
Firefighters performed CPR and administered oxygen to each. One of the dogs was revived and taken to a veterinarian for further care. The other two pets died.
