Calcasieu Parish Animal Services and the Lake Charles Police Department arrested Tyler Scott Sanders, 20, for Theft of an Animal and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.

On Aug. 16, authorities began investigating the case of a stolen Pit Bull puppy. The puppy was taken from a residence on Arkansas Street.

A concerned mail carrier contacted authorities about an injured animal, and on Nov. 21, Animal Services recovered the dog in the 1300 block of 9th Street.

Animal services observed that the puppy had severe, life-threatening injuries.

The puppy was eventually turned over to the Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue and transported to a veterinarian’s office for treatment.

An examination revealed that the puppy had broken bones and a skull fracture.

X-rays also revealed that the puppy had been shot in the head multiple times with a weapon similar to a pellet gun.

The puppy, now affectionately referred to as ‘Halo,’ is doing better but still suffers from limited mobility and vision.

Bless that mail carrier. We need more people to speak up when they suspect abuse!
Never tolerate animal abuse, for they cannot speak. Report it to the police. They must respond to reports of animal abuse.
