BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A stray pit bull spotted in the grassy median of I-110 had to be euthanized due to severe internal injuries.
“It appeared to have been hit by a car,” Hilton Cole, East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Control, said. “It was hurt with internal injuries. It could not walk. It was brought to the Companion Animal Alliance and they determined that the animal was suffering.”
A Good Samaritan stopped to help the tan-colored pit bull at roughly 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22. The dog was in the center of the Interstate near the Governor’s Mansion exit.
“The officer, with the help of the citizen, put the animal on a jacket and used it to transport it to the vehicle,” Cole explained. “We thank the Good Samaritan for the kind gesture.”
Cole said the dog appeared to be in “fair” condition, meaning it did not seem to be suffering from any major form of neglect or abuse, other than the injuries from being hit. It was not micro chipped, nor did it have a collar.
