A family in Brazil with nine pet tigers and two lionesses is fighting to keep their animals from being taken away.

Ary Borges says it all started when he rescued two abused tigers from a traveling circus in 2005. He made his home into a make-shift animal sanctuary.

Borges does have a license to raise the big cats, but officials say he illegally bred them and created a danger to the public.

Brazil’s Environmental Protection Agency is working through the legal system to have the male tigers neutered and wants to remove the big cats from his care.

Borges defends his right to breed the tigers and says they have a better home with him than they could find anywhere else in Brazil.
