A reward is being offered for information regarding the identity of the person who is believe to have injured a black swan and destroyed its eggs in New Orleans City Park.

Officials say the incident happened during the late night on Friday, Feb. 1 or the early morning the following day. We’re told the black swan had a nest located inside the Sculpture Garden. It contained 5 eggs, all of which were found broken.

A City Park police officer made the discovery after he noticed that the swan’s left ankle was injured. A local veterinarian was called out to the park to retrieve and treat the swan. We’re told the swan is expected to make a full recovery.

Officials have not indicated why they believe the attack was caused by a person. However, City Park and the New Orleans Museum of Art is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible.

If you have any information you’re asked to call City Park Police Chief Billy Bayle at (504) 421-9307.
