A shooting spree has left at least ten people dead in south Alabama. Authorities say a gunman went on a rampage in three small towns: Samson, Kinston, and Geneva. After an hour-long rampage, the gunman took his own life. NBC’s Jay Gray is in Alabama with the details.

We are beginning to learn more about the deadly attack. Officials say the gunman 28 year old Michael Kenneth McClendon left behind a list who had quote "done him wrong."

But investigators here say they still don't know nearly enough. Questions like what triggered the horrific attack. Questions like how and why McClendon savagely murdered his mother, grandmother, uncle and two cousins then continued his shooting spree.

Shooting up cars and businesses and firing on police. It continued for nearly close to an hour. McClendon covering close to 20 miles during his reign of terror, killing five more seemingly random victims before taking his own life.

Deputy Josh Myers was chasing McClendon during the attack; he had no idea that two of the victims were his wife and 18-month-old daughter. "It still seems like I should able to walk in the house and my wife should be there, and my baby girl should be climbing on me. I'm never in my life be able to fully understand it," said Myers.

It's one of those questions here that will likely never be answered.
