Some may say time's are tough when it comes to the economy, but there's one local business that has beat the odds and is celebrating 35 years in Baton Rouge.

The party started all the way back in 1979, when Donna Travis' mother Joanne Fox started a business that would eventually become Party Time.

"We moved the next year and the business took over the house and it just kept growing," says Travis.

Today Donna is running the family business, which is celebrating it's 35th anniversary.

"It's good to see those customers that have known me almost my whole life."

Managers say that just about everyone in the Capitol City has thrown a party or two with the store's help.

"I think that we're really a part of Baton Rouge. We've been here for 35 years. Everybody knows us. Every time I go somewhere they're like oh Party Time," says General Manager Gerry Harper.

They've got a following of loyal customers.

"Like I said I've been coming here for 25 years and I would walk in here and see her mom and her mom would say hey how are you doing, you know," says customer Mona Talbot.

But just like the party trends, the times have changed. With the rise in popularity of do it yourself and Pinterest party items, the store is always on the look out for the next best thing.

"Once we get a few requests that sparks an interest and we start looking for those items."

But Donna says that keeping a business running for more than three decades is hardly a party.

"I start with Halloween and Christmas in January and I have everything completely bought by February 15th."

Party Time has been helping Baton Rouge residents throw the perfect party for all of life's special moments for 35 years.

"People are coming in for happy occasions. They're celebrating milestones. A birthday, a baby's first birthday is wonderful. Then you see them come back year's later and they're getting married so you get to celebrate the life, their life's moments. So that's what's fun about the party business," adds Travis.

Party Time is the largest party supply store in the Baton Rouge area. They stock about 25,000 items in the store, which is 30,000 square feet. Donna and her mother attend 8 to 10 trade shows a year just to get all the buying done for the store. They've also outgrown themselves several times and have had to move, but they say they plan to make the Bluebonnet location their permanent home.
