Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Students at Woodlawn High got a look at what can happen if you drink and drive or drive while distracted.
Student volunteers got into the cars with firemen to learn what happens in the event of a serious accident; they crowded around while the firemen used special tools to pry, saw, and pull off the doors and roofs of cars.
EMS was also at the school to show how they handle patient care once carefully taken out of the car.
St. George Fire Captain Frank Dellucky said with prom season coming, it was a good experience for the students.
"The majority of them had a look of disbelief, and especially after their fellow students who were in the vehicles that we were extricating, they came out and told them what it was about and what they felt,” stated Dellucky. “They had a whole new understanding of what we do and what it's like."
There were four demonstrations all day, each attended by 300 students.
