Baton Rouge Fire Department officials say firefighters are trying to figure out what caused a fire that left six people displaced in North Baton Rouge.

Firefighters say it happened around 2:40 a.m. Sunday at an apartment complex in the 4100 block of Mohican Presscott Crossover.

Three of the 16 units were occupied at the time of the fire. One unit down stairs housed a family of four while two units upstairs had one tenant each. The fire is believed to have started in the unit that was occupied downstairs.

When fire fighters arrived on scene the fire had extended through the roof of the building. Eight of the 16 units were completely destroyed before the fire was brought under control. Fire fighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. The cause of this fire is undetermined and under investigation.

All six people were displaced and were being assisted by Red Cross.
