A 5th grader used her birthday money to help a pet shelter in Sorrento, La.

Victoria Hoff, 11, was inspired by a news broadcast about a young girl who donated her birthday money to a good cause. Hoff decided she wanted to do the same thing to help the Ascension Parish Animal Shelter.

“I have a cat that I really like and so I wanted to give gifts to the animal shelter,” Victoria said in a press release. “I also have friends at school who said they would do this also.”

The money was used to donate supplies such as food, collars, toys and treats.

“Most people are takers and not givers,” Mike LeBlanc, supervisor of the parish’s shelter, said about her donation. “Victoria is a giver. This act of kindness, I believe, will come back to her in her life. We thank her so much.”
