PORT ALLEN, La (WVLA) – The West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Florida man who was in possession of over a million dollars worth of marijuana. They say this is the largest amount of illegal contraband they’ve ever confiscated from a vehicle.

The arrest was made by the Drug Interdiction Task Force, which monitors the stretch of I-10 that runs through West Baton Rouge Parish. Officials said in a press conference on Tuesday, Oct. 9 that the task force pulled over Jose Antonio Castellar Lugo, 35, because he “looked suspicious.”

500 pounds of marijuana were taken from the vehicle. They believe it was being taken from Mexico to Florida.

NBC33 News will have more on this story tonight at 5 p.m.
