5-year old rescued by firefighter after falling out of bus
BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) – A five-year old is in the hospital today after falling from a moving school bus.
The child was injured during the morning commute. Officials say the child fell out of the bus after the 62-year old bus driver forgot to close the doors after opening them due to inclement weather that caused poor visibility. The child fell out of the bus unnoticed.
Fortunately, an off duty Baton Rouge Firefighter was driving behind the bus and spotted the child.
“He’s a 25 year veteran and a Captain of the fire department,” Curte Monte, Baton Rouge Fire Department, said about CJ Rushing, the man who saved the young boy. “He was sitting at a red light and the bus was to the side of him. The bus was taking a left turn. He didn’t see the child fall out of the bus, but then he noticed the child on the ground after it pulled away. The child got up and started running. CJ positioned his truck to stop the traffic and then picked up the child in his arms.”
The child was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The Baton Rouge Police Department investigated and no citation has been issued at this time. However, the investigation is ongoing.
