They're usually never welcome, and always pesky, but now some are downright dangerous.

"Especially in places like Louisiana where you have so much water standing, especially after a hurricane. The mosquitoes are outrageous," says Edwin Miltenberger owner of Any Lab Test Now in Covington.

The CDC says more cases of West Nile Virus have been reported in 2012 than ever. As of September 11th 48 states have been tainted, affecting the lives of more than 2,600 people and killing 118. Louisiana ranks #2 with close to 150 cases and 10 deaths.

Miltenberger offers a long list of blood tests at Any Lab Test Now, but one will tell you if you're in the clear or not when it comes to West Nile.

"It's an immediate solution to a long term worry that people have," explains Miltenberger, "If I had been in contact with mosquitoes and developed symptoms within 3 to 5 days after that contact, I would probably have the test. About 1% of people really have severe reactions to West Nile Virus, 20% have mild reactions, and 80% practically have no reactions, but if you're in that spot where you're at risk, a young child, or an older person, for peace of mind I'd come have the test."

The blood test cost $112. You don't need an appointment or a doctors order, and you'll get results back in two to three days.

West Nile Virus symptoms include fever, headache and body aches, nausea and vomiting, skin rash and neck stiffness.
