An FDA advisory panel recommended approval of a new drug for rheumatoid arthritis.

The drug, called Tofacitinib, is made by Pfizer and is part of a new class of pain medications.

It is administered orally, which is unlike other drugs to treat arthritis that are given by infusion or injection.

The panel did voice some concern over side-effects like infection and lymphoma.

FDA officials should decide whether they'll approve the drug by august.
