NATIONAL NEWS — The nation's blood supply is lower than it's been in fifteen years and officials say if it doesn't turn around soon, doctors may have to start cancelling elective surgeries.
American Red Cross officials say a variety of factors caused the agency to fall fifty thousand units short in June, and likely again in July. Severe storms over the past few months have increased demand for blood, while extreme heat and vacationing donors have kept many out of blood mobiles.
Experts say the need for blood never goes away.
