BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) While you were out and about today, you probably saw lots of people in pink. That's because October is breast cancer awareness month and over the next four weeks, NBC 33 is proud to showcase local patients and survivors that inspire us all.
We start today with Maurine LaCour, a breast cancer and lymphoma survivor who is giving back to cancer patients in Baton Rouge.
Maurine delivers smiles, and snacks, to patients getting cancer treatment at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Baton Rouge. She started small, with six women from Healing Place Church just four months ago and the mission has grown quickly. Counting their trip to Mary Bird Perkins today, "HPC Helps Ministries" has delivered over 6,000 snacks. They have started helping out at home too, delivering meals and even mowing lawns. With more donations, "HPC Helps Ministries" wants to increase their trips to Mary Bird Perkins from three days a week to five.
If you want to donate, contact Terri Atkinson or Vivian Wilkinson at Healing Place Church at 225-753-2273.
