It's been 20 years since the Berlin Wall came down, and this week marks the anniversary of that historic moment.
71-year-old John Schulze has been an American for a long time, but his roots lie in Germany. He was just a boy during World War II. His father was a German soldier, who died in 1945 in a Russian concentration camp. Schulze, his two brothers, and his mother left Germany for America when he was a teenager, where he later joined the army.
He was in Germany, as an American soldier, when the Berlin Wall was built. When it came down in 1989, he knew he had to celebrate.
He and his brothers borrowed tools from his cousins in East Germany. He hadn't seen them in 40 years. Twenty years later, Schulze still has pieces of that wall as a reminder of his past.
