2 officers recovering after B.R. hotel shooting
BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A Louisiana State Trooper and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's deputy are recovering in the hospital after a suspect opened fire at a Baton Rouge Hotel early Thursday morning.
An EBR Sheriff's Office spokewoman says officers from the EBR Sheriff's Office, the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office, Denham Springs Police, and LA State Police were trying to make contact with a man who had several outstanding drug and burglary warrants from Livingston and East Baton Rouge Parish.
Officials on scene told NBC33 a LA State Trooper and EBR Sheriff's Deputy both received minor injuries from bullet shrapnel. Both are expected to make a full recovery. The officers were at the Magnuson Hotel on Gwenadele Avenue to arrest Jesse Aron Gordon, 22, from Denham Springs, LA. Investigators say, they heard gunshots and returned fire. We're told SWAT team members forcet their way into the motel room, and found out Gordon was dead. Investigators say he shot himself.
The suspect, Jessie Aron Gordon, 22, of 26229 Walker South Road, Denham Springs was pronounced dead on the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Gordon had outstanding warrants with the Denham Springs Police for Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving Under Suspension, Expired Motor Vehicle Insurance, No Insurance, Switched License Plate and Resisting an Officer. He also had outstanding warrants with the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office for Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and Theft of a Firearm. The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office had charges for Gordon for Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, and he is suspected in other ongoing burglary cases.
EBRSO and LSP are jointly investigating the incident as part of the Violent Crimes Unit.
