Two men are dead after a huge head-on collision between two 18-wheelers on I-10 last night. Around 6 pm an 18-wheeler traveling west on I-10 crossed the median and hit another 18-wheeler going east on I-10 head-on near the Estherwood-Iota exit.

After the impact both trucks caught fire with one landing on a service road, and the other stopping on the eastbound lanes of I-10, forcing that part of the interstate to close for a period of time last night. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

"It was very bad. In eighteen years, almost eighteen years as a trooper it's one of the worst I've seen," says Master Trooper Brooks David, State Police Troop I.

Due to the extent of the damage and fire, troopers are still working to gather vehicle information and identify the drivers.

Police say they should finish cleanup from this accident sometime Thursday evening.
