BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) --It's the central spot on campus for students, and now there's 50,000 more square feet for LSU students to take a break, study, grab a bite and even play a round of pool.

The $83.7 million renovation was paid for by students, LSU Operations and commission from retail sales at the union.

Officials say the results will benefit students here for years to come.

"This is the time to invest and give something back so that future generations of students can have the same services and benefits that students for several generations have had," said LSU Union Director Shirley Plakidas.

No tax dollars were used to fund the renovation.

Some areas, like the food court, are still closed for construction.

The entire project is set to finish in January.
