Louisiana (NBC33) — The waters surrounding Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes opened up yesterday.
The catch looks great, but more than two years after the BP oil spill, people from out of state still aren't buying Louisiana seafood.
The FDA tests shrimp weekly and all the tests show no traces of oil or dispersants.
Shrimpers hoping seafood lovers will get over their fear this go around.
"I just hope it's a good season”, stated shrimper Robert Clowder. “Everybody needs it. It's been a long winter."
On May 21, shrimping will open everywhere else along the coast.
Last year, Louisiana fishermen brought in almost 91 million pounds of shrimp.
