New York Times Best Selling Author Liz Murray stopped by the Capital City to speak to area residents about how she overcame extreme poverty.  Murray is the inspiration behind the Lifetime Television movie "Homeless to Harvard."  She also details her struggles in her new book Breaking Night.  The book is currently on the New York Times Best Seller List.

Murray's story includes supporting her drug addicted parents beginning at age 10.  At 15, she found herself living on the streets of The Bronx, New York.  After her mother died of AIDS, she re-dedicated herself to her education, graduating from high school and winning a full scholarship to Harvard University.  She now has a BA in Psychology from the Ivy League school. 

Murray spoke at a banquet sponsored by Hope Ministries.  The organization is dedicated to preventing homelessness in Baton Rouge.  It has helped thousands of people in need over the last  seven years.
