Chili Cookoff to benefit special needs playground
Project Kidz Kove hosted a Chili Contest today to benefit their Kidz Kove Discovery Park, slated to be built in Gonzales in 2013.
The group needs to raise $400,000 before they can break ground on the park, which will be located on the corner of François and Cornerview in Gonzales. The park will cost $750,000 to complete.
Today's benefit raised about $4,000, bringing the group's total donations so far to $24,000.
Project Kidz Kove will host a community mixer on February 22, 2011 to raise more money and awareness about the park.
When completed, the playground will have specialized equipment fitted with ramps and other safety devices to make it accessible to kids in walkers and wheelchairs. There will also be calming zones for kids with developmental disabilities and misters for children taking medication that make them sensitive to the sun.
The city of Gonzales dedicated 1.2 acres of land to the project. When construction is finished, the park will be given back to the city for maintenance.
