BATON ROUGE, LA (WVLA) Over 1,000 kids ranging in age from sixth to 12th graders gathered at St. Jude Catholic Church on Sunday to celebrate World Youth Day. The event was started 25 years ago by Pope John Paul II as a worldwide celebration bringing together young people from across the globe. The kids at St. Jude came from all over Louisiana to perform skits, sing, play music, pray, and participate in a pilgrimage walk that took them from the church to GSRI Rd., and back to the church again. The event was completely free of charge, and participants were also given free lunch and dinner. The event was sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge.
